The Functional and Operational Register

The functional and operational register deals with the site in terms of how it works - how it accommodates and supports the complex sets of functions associated with the Museum as well as the other events and uses based on the site. It deals with the past uses of the buildings and site and how they have influenced its configuration and form. It considers how the larger patterns of movement and mixes of uses in the surrounding area – the presence of the railway, the preponderance of new housing – might impact on future functions. It considers the different aspects of the Museum’s mission and how those are accommodated within the buildings and site. It considers the museum as a type, looking at how the function and purpose of the contemporary museum is changing.
